Why your IPTV guide is empty, and how to fix it

A blank programme guide is the most common IPTV complaint, and it is almost never the player's fault. There are only a handful of real causes.

1. The playlist has no guide URL

An M3U file can declare its guide in the header with url-tvg. If your provider omitted it, there is nothing for the player to fetch. Ask them for the XMLTV address — it usually ends in xmltv.php or .xml.gz. With an Xtream login, the guide address is derived from your account automatically.

2. The channel IDs do not match

This is the big one. Each channel in the playlist carries a tvg-id, and each programme in the XMLTV file is filed under a channel id. If the two do not match exactly, the player has nothing to join them on and the row stays empty — even though both files are perfectly valid.

Symptoms: some channels have a full schedule while others have none, or a channel shows another channel's programmes. Only your provider can correct the ids at the source.

3. The guide has not been downloaded yet

Guide files are large. Zapline fetches the EPG in the background when a playlist opens and refreshes it periodically, so a brand-new playlist can take a moment before the grid fills in. You can force it from Settings with Refresh Guide Now.

4. The times are wrong

XMLTV timestamps carry a UTC offset. If programmes appear at the wrong hour, the provider's file is stamping the wrong offset. Everything shifted by a whole number of hours is the signature of this problem.

5. The guide only covers a short window

Many providers publish only a day or two ahead. If the grid runs out when you scroll forward, that is the source data ending, not the player.
